the #playPURE40 day challenge

During the challenge, you will track your child’s media and reading usage, through a medals and points system over the span of 6 weeks (40-42 days!). You can do this as a school, organization, group, or even as an individual family. The goal of this initiative is growth. Even those who struggle a lot will be able to start off slow with the challenge as every week gets harder. It’s a process— and we know, recognize, and embrace that!

  3. 42 gold dot stickers (We suggest these)

Tracking: There are two categories of “rewards”. You can win: (1) medals and (2) points every single day!

DAILY

MEDALS: At the end of every day, on the playPURE challenge tracker, put a gold sticker in the box under the medal you have achieved for that day. To see which medal you have achieved, look at the medal chart in the challenge companion.

Example: If you watched 40 minutes of playPURE approved TV, and played for 30 minutes on your iPad, you would receive a silver medal for that day.

NOTE: You can skip most of the categories (except reading) whenever you want. What this means is that if you didn’t watch any TV, or plaany video games, but you just read for 30 minutes, you would still receive a gold medal.

If you don’t receive a medal that day, just leave the box empty.

POINTS: Throughout the day, keep track the points you achieve in the “Points Chart” by tallying them on the weekly summary chart ex. . You can achieve points by doing the activities on the play/worship/worship chart in the challenge companion.

WEEKLY

  1. At the beginning of the challenge, set a goal level for the week. Try to stick with your goal for the entire 40-days and only change it if you are really struggling.
  2. At the end of the week, tally the number of points you got for the whole week.
  3. Write down how many medals you received that week to determine your weekly level achievement. Each week has a different set of combinations that get harder and harder.

To achieve Level 3, you must have a MINIMUM of five medal days from your seven-day week. Of the five medal days, a minimum of three must be a gold medal. The other two days can be silver (or higher—gold). Because you only need five medal days to be eligible, it is okay if you have one or two days where you only got a bronze or did not achieve any medal—as long as five meet the criteria.

To achieve Level 2, you must have a MINIMUM of four medal days from your seven-day week. Of the four medal days, a minimum of four must be silver (or higher – gold).  Because you only need four medals, it is okay if you have up to three days where you only got a bronze or did not achieve any medal—as long four were silver or higher.
